Planning To Succeed
When I speak with a lot of the successful people I know, they all seem to tell me the same thing that their successes have emanated from having created a concrete vision and plan for their life, both personally and in their business ventures.
Spectacular achievement is always preceded by unspectacular preparation – Robert Schuller
Definite Purpose To Madness
In investigating and drilling these people for more insight into their successes and their process of figuring out how they laid out their plans, I was able to define their success planning steps as follows: -
- They took stock of their lives; where they were at a particular point in their lives, and why they were at that point. When you really think about, you really do have to figure out why you are where you are in your own life. Because if you don’t, then there is no way to fix the problem or issues at hand, and therefore there is no way to get the results you want to get.
Insanity = Doing the same things over and over again but expecting different results…
- After that, they defined their target destination, i.e. where they wanted to be. A lot of people, when asked the question “where are you going in your life”, don’t know where they are headed or, indeed, why.
- Now with a starting point and ending point, they strategically defined how to get from the start to the end.
- From their strategic plan or blueprint, as some of them call it, they defined goals and sub-goals.
Classic Analogy: Getting From A to B
The above process is not new in concept and in fact there is a classic analogy that can used to illustrate this… let’s say you want to get from one U.S. city to another and you wanted to get directions.
Well the first you would need to know is where you are starting from and then where it is that you want to go. If the destination city is Dallas, Texas then the directions you would get to go from Los Angeles, California would be very different then the ones you would get if you starting off in Miami, Florida!
Once you know your starting point and destination city you can come up with an overall strategy to get there. For example, if starting from Los Angeles (and going to Dallas, Texas), you would head west. This is your overall strategy.
Then you set goals to progress quickly and efficiently along this path. Your goals could be to first reach Ontario, then onto Palm Springs, followed by Blythe, then cross over into Arizona, etc. Each of these can be divided into sub-goals with specific time lines.
Planning Is A Prerequisite To Success
Each of these successful people have basically employed the same concept as described above and they have accomplished and realized their dreams both personally and financially. They also seem a lot more happier than a lot of other friends and family members.
This is the power of planning and in order to succeed with your dreams, you must spend time in analyzing your own life, where you are currently, and where you want to go. Then, you define goals. It seems to me that a lot of people come with miscelleanous goals, usually financial related, but not really knowing what their destination is. And, in the end, they never fulfill their goals.
Planning Success Habits
There are only 4 habits to learn as far as planning your life is concerned. These habits involve using your mind to know who are, where you are in your life, where you want to go, and being focused on the right thing in the right way.
- Know What You Want
- Be Focused On Freedom
- Be Financially Adept
- Live Debt Free
Planning is key to your successes. You must start with a good plan. Do not omit this step.
