Jekyll Island Meeting

Here We Go Again!

The head of the Federal Reserve System, Ben Bernanke, is scheduled to meet with various staff members of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta in the middle part of May, 2009.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta is one of the 12 banks across the United States that forms the Federal Reserve System.

The meeting itself is not unusual. What is unusual though is the location of the meeting place – Jekyll Island. Although the meeting is place is known, what remains largely unknown is the agenda; there is speculation a lot of the same issues, as discussed in the infamous meeting in 1910, could potentially be discussed.

Infamous Meeting Changed The World

The meeting back in 1910, which is the central topic of Edward Griffin’s brilliant, must-read book, “The Creature From Jekyll Island” gave birth to the Central Bank of the United States, known as the Federal Reserve System. It is believed that the same idea was applied to create the World Bank as well.

The meeting in 1910 was held in response to the large number of bank failures, disintegration of the stock market, and lack of control by a central governing body. This is not unlike to what is currently evolving in the United States, except that we are in 2009, almost a hundred years later.
According to the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta Jekyll Island was chosen for no other reason than convenience, and the discussion will revolve around financial calamity and financial modernization. I wonder if we could get anymore vague than that!

Other attendees will include members from the other branches of the Federal Reserve and various scholar and think tank organizations.

The 1910 meeting changed the world for good. It did not become better, it just changed forever.
I wonder what they will concoct this time and what the fall-out will be this time around…
